Raymond James downgrades Blue Capital on potential catastrophe loss impact

Raymond James & Associates analyst C. Gregory Peters has downgraded his call on Blue Capital Reinsurance Holdings Ltd. to "underperform" from "market perform" over the impact of potential losses from recent hurricanes on the company's surplus.

Peters said the potential losses could lead to lower dividend payouts by the reinsurer over the next for quarters. He anticipates that the company will record a consolidated combined ratio of 155.0% in the third quarter and a loss ratio of 117.5%.

The analyst estimated that the Blue Capital Reinsurance will pay a full-year dividend of $1.20 per share in 2018, down from $1.48 in 2017 and $2.14 in 2016.

He also lowered his 2017 and 2018 EPS estimates to 55 cents from $1.45 and to $1.55 from $1.70, respectively. His EPS estimate for 2019 is $1.45.
