The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States cleared the pending merger between Enbridge Inc. and Spectra Energy Corp, ticking off another condition for the deal to close.
The federal interagency committee, chaired by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, concluded that there are no unresolved national security concerns regarding the merger, according to a Dec. 21 SEC filing.
The companies received merger approval from shareholders in the previous week. The deal closing is expected in the first quarter of 2017.
