Verizon Communications Inc. struck a deal to improve the information technology infrastructure in the city of San Jose, Calif.

Under the agreement, Verizon intends to deploy fiber and install small cells, invest in the city's Digital Inclusion Fund, and provide several smart city apps, focusing on traffic management, the company said June 15.

The San Jose city council will review the terms of the agreement at its scheduled June 26 meeting.
