Canadian Solar energizes 19-MWp solar project in Japan

Canadian Solar Inc. achieved commercial operations at the first of two planned solar projects in the Gunma prefecture near Tokyo, it announced in a Dec. 27 news release.

The 19.1-megawatt-peak Gunma Aramki solar project is powered by 59,544 of Canadian Solar's CS6X MaxPower panels, which will produce approximately 23,830 MWh of electricity annually. Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings Inc.. will purchase the electricity under a 20-year feed-in-tariff contract at a price of 32 cents per kWh, the company said.

Canadian Solar recently raised approximately 5.4 billion yen, or US$47.0 million, through a dual-tenor bond to fund the project.
