EDP Renewables wins power contracts for 2 wind farms in Brazil

EDP Renováveis Brasil SA won 20-year power contracts at the Brazilian energy A-6 2017 auction, for the sale of the output from the planned 121.8-MW Santa Rosa e Mundo Novo wind farm and the 97.1-MW Aventura wind farm.

The wind facilities to be constructed in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Norte are expected to reach commercial operation in January 2023. Combined with previously signed contracts, parent company EDP Renováveis, or EDP Renewables SA, has already secured power purchase agreements for 482 MW of wind projects in Brazil with expected start of operations in 2017, 2018 and 2023.

"We entered the market in 2010 and currently we have an installed capacity of 204 MW, to be doubled in the near future pursuant to this awarding," EDP Renewables CEO João Manso Neto said in a company release.
