Italy is on course to install a new government after members of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement approved a coalition deal with the Democratic Party, Reuters reported.
Five Star Movement leader Luigi Di Maio said 79.3% of party members backed the deal through an online vote, while 20.7% rejected the proposed coalition.
Outgoing Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is expected to return to his post and lead the new governing coalition. He announced his resignation in August after the League Party decided to end its alliance with the Five Star Movement due to disagreements in policies.
Conte will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Sept. 4 before proceeding with the formation of the new government, which could be sworn in the following day, according to Italian newswire Ansa.
