Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp., both part of the Hyundai Motor Group, are recalling a total of 41,505 vehicles to fix defective exhaust components, Yonhap News Agency reported Sept. 24, citing South Korea's Ministry of Environment.
The recall covers 21,720 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 vehicles produced between June 29, 2018, and June 15, as well as 19,785 units of Kia Sportage 2.0 vehicles manufactured from June 29, 2018, to June 14, according to Yonhap.
The affected vehicles reportedly have a diesel particulate filter that is impaired by malfunctioning exhaust gas temperature control software. This could result in a warning light from the onboard diagnostics system, the report said.
The South Korean carmakers will recall the vehicles beginning Sept. 25 to replace the faulty parts, Yonhap added.
