DOL launches review of Wells Fargo's labor practices

The U.S. Departmentof Labor's Wage and Hour Division has begun reviewing Wells Fargo & Co.'s labor practices, in response to arequest from a group ofsenators to investigate the company in the wake of its unauthorized account scandal.

Labor SecretaryThomas Perez, in a letter addressed to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said that he hasdirected enforcement agencies within the department to conduct a "top-to-bottomreview" of complaints or breaches concerning the San Francisco-based companyover the last several years.

The departmenthas formed a working group to conduct the review, and has also set up a dedicatedwebpage and specific monitoring of its hotline to make certain that current andformer employees of the beleaguered banking company are informed about worker protectionlaws.

Perez also noted that he has asked the Occupational Safety andHealth Administration, or OSHA, to investigate the entire docket of both closedand open whistleblower cases filed against Wells Fargo since 2010 to examine thehandling and disposition of those cases.
