Google Inc. released a developer preview for Internet of Things builder Android Things and an updated Weave platform, according to a Dec. 13 blog post from the Android Developers website.
Android Things allows developers to build IoT products using Android application program interfaces and Google services. Meanwhile, the Weave platform will allow all types of devices to connect to the cloud and to use Google services.
The Weave device software developer kits currently supports schemas for light bulbs, smart plugs and switches, as well as thermostats.
The Alphabet Inc. unit intends to update the developer preview to provide infrastructure for securely pushing regular OS patches, security fixes and other updates.
