Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to launch projects for six-year plan

Auto manufacturers Renault SA, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp., through their Franco-Japanese strategic alliance, on March 1 announced the launch of a number of projects to accelerate convergence in key operational areas in the partnership, including engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality and total customer satisfaction, and aftersales and business development.

The move follows the group's announcement last year of a six-year plan called Alliance 2022, under which the three carmakers aim to collaborate on common platforms and technologies to exceed 14 million units in sales and generate $240 billion in revenue by the end of the plan.

Different executive vice presidents of the alliance have been appointed to lead the projects, which are expected to lead to a new organizational structure that will be reviewed and finalized with the appropriate employee representatives. The final project recommendations will be sent to decision-making bodies of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

The group expects to implement the convergence plan beginning April 1.
