Oilfield service provider National Oilwell Varco Inc. was awarded equipment package and design orders by Japanese construction and engineering firm Shimizu Corp. for an offshore wind turbine installation vessel, according to a Sept. 3 release.
The customized jack-up rig design has a total tonnage of 28,000 tonnes, can accommodate 130 people and will incorporate a proprietary 2,500-tonne telescopic leg crane designed specifically for the offshore wind market, the release said.
Construction will be done by Japan Marine United shipyard. The vessel is expected to be delivered in late 2022.
