South State posts biggest short interest drop in early January

South State Corp. posted the biggest decline in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Dec. 30, 2016, and Jan. 13.

The company saw short interest fall 181 basis points to 1.77% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Heritage Oaks Bancorp had the biggest jump in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Dec. 30, 2016, and Jan. 13. The company saw short interest increase 118 basis points to 3.01% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

BofI Holding Inc. topped the list of most shorted banks and thrifts between Dec. 30, 2016, and Jan. 13. The company saw short interest slip 58 basis points to 31.23% of shares outstanding.
