HSBC ends $2.5B share buyback

HSBC Holdings Plc completed its share buyback program with 325,273,407 ordinary shares purchased for US$2.5 billion at a volume-weighted average price of 605.67 pence per share, it said Dec. 19.

The repurchase program was announced Aug. 4. HSBC purchased the shares from Goldman Sachs International, which acted as principal on the buyback.

The buyback was aimed at reducing HSBC's outstanding ordinary shares. HSBC has 19,865,723,608 ordinary shares issued.
