First Solar sells 100-MW Calif. solar facility to D.E. Shaw Renewable

First Solar Inc. sold the planned 100-MW Willow Springs solar facility in Kern County, Calif., to an affiliate of D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments LLC for an undisclosed sum.

The project is expected to enter operation at end of this year and will sell electricity to Southern California Edison Co. under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The project will provide enough electricity to power about 41,000 typical California homes, according to an Oct. 17 release.

Willow Springs is the fourth solar project First Solar has sold to D.E. Shaw Renewable since 2016. The company has sold the 40-MW Cuyama project in Santa Barbara County, Calif., the 31-MW Portal Ridge project in Los Angeles County, Calif., and the 11-MW Rancho Seco project in Sacramento County, Calif.
