Hanmi Financial sees biggest spike in short interest in late July

Hanmi Financial Corp. saw the largest rise in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between July 14 and July 31.

The company saw short interest rise 325 basis points to 4.10% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Bank of Commerce Holdings topped the list of banks and thrifts with the largest drops in short interest in the second half of July. The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding fell 144 basis points to 2.78% as of July 31.

BofI Holding Inc. topped the list of most shorted banks and thrifts during the period. The company saw short interest drop 11 basis points to 40.15% of shares outstanding.
