Unionized workers downed tools at Amerigo Resources Ltd.'s Minera Valle Central copper operation in Chile, the company said Oct. 6.
Negotiations continued through Oct. 5, following which the 216-member union decided to reject the company's final wage offer.
The company on Sept. 30 requested the Chilean Labor Authority to intervene to further extend talks.
Amerigo remains open to restarting talks on a new collective agreement and will take measures to ensure the safety of its personnel and plant facilities.
The strike is expected to affect output at MVC, the company noted.
