Senate votes to begin work on combining tax reform bills

The U.S. Senate voted 51-47 largely along party lines to begin work on reconciling its tax reform proposal with the version passed by the House of Representatives.

The House voted to send its version to a conference committee, which will hammer out the details, earlier this week.

Congressional leaders have said that their goal is to produce a single bill for President Donald Trump to sign before the end of the year.
