Sumitomo Mitsui Financial names new president, chairman

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. on Dec. 14 announced the appointment of Jun Ohta as president and group CEO, confirming an earlier media report.

Ohta currently serves as deputy president, CFO and chief strategy officer of the Japanese megabank. He will set down from his role as director and deputy president of the group's unit, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., according to a Form 6-K.

Ohta will replace Takeshi Kunibe as president and group CEO. The group appointed Kunibe as chairman, replacing Koichi Miyata.

The changes will take effect April 1, 2019.

The group's announcement follows a report from The Nikkei on the changes.
