Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal Media LLC launched a global accelerator for sports technology startups, called SportsTech, which will offer a three-month custom-tailored program for up to 10 startups.
The accelerator will feature a partnership of three of Comcast NBCUniversal's sports brands — NBC Sports, Sky Sports and Golf Channel (US) — alongside NASCAR, U.S. Ski & Snowboard and USA Swimming. Comcast's venture capital arm, Comcast Ventures, will also be part of the partnership.
Beginning in August, SportsTech will provide select sports technology startups with access to an international consortium of advisers, a custom sports technology curriculum as well as investment capital, the company said Jan. 14.
SportsTech's initial focus areas will include media and entertainment; fan and player engagement; athlete and player performance; team and coach success; sports venue and event innovation; fantasy sports and sports wagering; esports; and business of sports.
Each partner will serve on an advisory committee and will provide startups with access to industry relationships, mentorship and partnership opportunities.
