REIT Replay: Jobs fall

Real estate investment trusts and the broader markets ended in the red Friday, Oct. 6, as the U.S. Department of Labor said the unemployment rate declined month on month in September.

The MSCI US REIT Index (RMZ) fell 0.34% to 1,157.04, and the SNL US REIT Equity Index shed 0.33% to close out the week at 315.07. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked down 0.01%, closing at 22,773.67, while the S&P 500 closed 0.11% lower at 2,549.33.

Iron Mountain Inc. on Thursday launched an up to $500 million at-the-market offering program covering its common shares, to fund its approximately $100 million purchase of two Credit Suisse data centers in London and Singapore.

Iron Mountain shares declined 2.28% to end the day at $38.12.

Phillips Edison Grocery Center REIT I Inc. said Thursday that it closed on its acquisition of the real estate assets and third-party asset management business of its former sponsor and external adviser in a roughly $1 billion cash-and-stock deal.

New York REIT is in advanced discussions to sell two Garment District buildings in Manhattan, N.Y., to Brickman for $155 million, The Real Deal reported Thursday.

New York REIT shares dropped 0.76%, closing at $7.80.

Special-purpose entities owned by Griffin Capital Essential Asset REIT Inc.'s operating partnership landed a $375.0 million loan backed by various mortgages, the company said Thursday.

Penn-Florida Cos. said Thursday that it closed on $398 million financing for its Via Mizner urban resort project in downtown Boca Raton, Fla.

New Senior Investment Group said Thursday that it expects to close on $296 million in property sales during the fourth quarter.

Shares of New Senior Investment closed 1.19% lower at $9.13.
