8minutenergy, D.E. Shaw commission 155-MW Calif. solar plant

8minutenergy Renewables LLC and D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments LLC have commisioned the 155-MW Springbok 2 solar facility in Kern County, Calif.

Together with Springbok 1, which was commissioned earlier this year, the Springbok 2 solar facility will deliver renewable energy to Southern California Public Power Authority on behalf of its participating member Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, according to a Dec. 19 company release.

"The Springbok solar projects are integral to meeting Los Angeles's renewable energy targets of 25% by 2016 and 33% by 2020. We are pleased to have a project of this size, scope, and importance completed on-budget and ahead of schedule," said Michael Webster, LADWP executive director of power system engineering and technical services.

8minutenergy contracted Swinerton Renewable Energy as the engineering, procurement and construction firm of the solar plant, which started construction in 2015.
