Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield will no longer offerpreferred provider organization plans in the individual market in Iowa, The Des Moines Register reported.
The insurer suffered a loss of $99 million in the past two yearsin the state primarily due to Affordable Care Act consumers using more healthcarethan expected, according to the report.
Wellmark will continue to offer plans that directpolicyholders to specific hospitals and clinics. It also will offer a healthmaintenance organization plan, with some restrictions on out-of-network care,the news outlet reported.
The insurer will not be offering any individual plans inSouth Dakota, affecting about 8,000 customers who bought individual policies inrecent years.
