Sompo Japan Fire and Marine, 5 others debuting in Maryland

Sompo Japan Fire & Marine Insurance Co. of America and United Heritage Life Insurance Co. are among the six new insurers licensed to operate in the state of Maryland.

The Maryland Insurance Administration also authorized ISDA Fraternal Association, Censtat Casualty Co., GPM Health & Life Insurance Co. and Security First Insurance Co. to operate in the state. The administration has added 15 new insurers to the state marketplace in 2016.

Four existing insurers received approval to expand into other insurance lines. Workers' compensation insurers Accident Fund General Insurance Co.and Accident Fund Insurance Co. of America each added casualty; marine, wet marine and transportation; property and marine; and surety and vehicle liability insurance. Casualty insurance provider Accident Fund National Insurance Co. is now authorized to offer health; marine, wet marine and transportation; property and marine; and surety, vehicle liability and workers' compensation insurance.
