Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Dec. 8 that it is making more items eligible for its same-day, in-store pickup service for online orders during the holiday shopping season.
The company noted that it sees demand for same-day pickup orders double during the last two weeks of the holiday shopping season and in response is offering more items online for the service than it has previously.
Shoppers will be able to buy items on Walmart.com marked Free Pickup Today until 4 p.m. local time on Dec. 23 and pick up their orders from a Wal-Mart store until 6 p.m. local time on Dec. 24.
The retail giant, which previously announced new shipping and pickup services for the holiday season, also continues to offer free two-day shipping without a membership.
In addition, Wal-Mart is debuting a program for unloaded gift cards. It places the cards into select boxes of online orders, and shoppers can opt to load cash amounts on them. The gift cards will appear in boxes for Walmart.com orders placed until Dec. 17, and in boxes for in-store pickup orders through Dec. 24.
