EDF to accelerate deployment of wind, solar projects in France

Electricité de France SA is accelerating the deployment of its solar and wind projects in France, as part of a strategy to reach global renewable capacity of 50 GW by 2030. The company's wind and solar photovoltaic portfolio in France is currently at 2,000 MW.

EDF also targets a 30% share in France's solar market by 2035, according to a news release. Through its "Plan Solaire" program, EDF has secured 2,000 hectares of land for ground-mounted solar projects over the past two years and said it has seen "strong" growth in the roof-mounted solar market, now with 20% market share.

In 2019, EDF through its EDF Renewables Inc. subsidiary, commissioned 200 MW of onshore wind projects and a similar volume of projects under construction. For offshore wind projects, EDF, through a consortium with Enbridge Inc., has started work on the 480-MW SaintNazaire offshore wind farm and expects to begin construction on the Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer projects in 2020.

The EDF-Enbridge consortium also won in the third government auction for the roughly 600 MW Dunkerque project.
