Apple Inc.'s demands over the manufacturing of iPhones in the country, including tax concessions and policy exceptions, face some resistance in the government, Reuters reported Jan. 19, citing Indian officials involved in reviewing the tech giant's proposal.
Some government officials reportedly see Apple's requests as excessive and unfair to foreign companies that are already operating in the country, with one senior official telling Reuters that India has "not done this for anyone."
Apple did not respond to a request for comment.
Top Apple executives are set to meet with Indian officials on Jan. 22 to discuss the company's prerequisites to invest in the country, which reportedly includes a 15-year exemption from customs duties.
