BT, Viacom among potential Channel 4 buyers

British CultureSecretary John Whittingdale has claimed in a parliamentary hearing thatChannel 4 (UK)will have "no shortage" of buyers, in his clearest indication yetthat the government is sellingthe public broadcaster.

While Whittingdale did not name Channel 4's potentialsuitors, ministerial records show that he met with British Telecom and Viacom Inc. several times in 2015, Broadcast reported April 28.

The official also reportedly sat down with , , 's and 's Sony Pictures Television Inc. in the same year.

Whittingdale also countered negative against Channel 4's privatization,arguing that the move will enable the broadcaster to explore growthpossibilities and boost its creativity.
