Dominion's 1,358-MW combined-cycle facility goes online

Dominion Virginia Power on April 25 energized its 1,358-MW in Virginia.

In an April 26 announcement, the Dominion Resources Inc. subsidiary said the combined-cycle,natural gas-fired facilitywas needed to meet growing demand and to replace electricity from aging coal-firedpower stations. Construction of the project beganin August 2013 and was completed on-schedule and on-budget.

Brunswick will have 43 employees and an annual payroll of about$7.5 million. The company estimates fuel savings of nearly $100 million in the plant'sfirst full year of operations. The facility is expected to save customers between$924 million and $1.5 billion over its expected life, the company said.
