IAMGOLD Corp. resumed mining operations in the southern pits of the Mayo and Royal Hill deposits at its Rosebel gold mine in Suriname, with full ramp-up expected within about 30 days.
The company suspended operations in August after a clash between police and illegal miners that left one miner dead. Operations partially resumed later that month.
IAMGOLD said Sept. 23 that it also resumed mine development at the Saramacca gold project in the country and plans to recall 325 contractors who were released in mid-August.
In addition, the company secured an agreement with a local community, enabling it to transport Saramacca ore to the Rosebel mill in early November.
