Banc of California sees biggest drop in short interest

Banc of California Inc. had the largest drop in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Nov. 30 and Dec. 15.

The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding fell 297 basis points to 30.18% as of Dec. 15.

Meta Financial Group Inc. posted the biggest increase in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Nov. 30 and Dec. 15. The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding climbed 122 basis points to 6.65% as of Dec. 15.

BofI Holding Inc. topped the list of most shorted banks and thrifts during the period. The company saw short interest decline 98 basis points to 31.98% of shares outstanding.
