Aon Plc's reinsurance solutions business generated its strongest organic growth rate in nearly five years during the second quarter, President and CEO Gregory Case said during a conference call, in part due to the success of the company's capital markets capabilities.
Reinsurance solutions organic growth of 6% for the second quarter and 4% for the first half of 2017 compared with flat results in the respective year-earlier periods. Although Case cautioned that he expects the growth rate to be higher in the first half of the year than the second half, he said the full-year 2017 result is likely to mark an increase from 2016, when organic growth totaled 1%.
The reinsurance brokerage business continues to face market headwinds, particularly in the U.S. property catastrophe line, Case said, but he added that the company achieved strong growth in its capital markets business along with continued growth in facultative placements and net new business.
"Our reinsurance business continues to deliver improved growth," he said. Case credited an "exceptionally strong team" and its ability to create new markets and respond to clients' needs.
Aon's organic revenue growth rate totaled 3% for the second quarter across businesses, in line with the result for the year-earlier period.
