Nuclear update: Plant availability eases ahead of more outages

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability took a small stepback early April 7 to 87.72%, down from 87.82% on April 6 but still above the 86.73%level noted on the same day in 2015.

Supporting total output was increased production at 's Point Beach1 in Wisconsin. The unit was eyed at 49% early April 7, rising from 30% on April6.

According to private sources a total of six reactors maybe shut in the next several days for planned seasonal maintenance which includes:Pinnacle West Capital Corp.'sPalo Verde 1 in Arizona; SouthernCo.'s Farley 2 in Alabama; DominionResources Inc.'s Millstone 3 in Connecticut; Public Service Enterprise Group Inc.'s Salem 1 in New Jersey;Exelon Corp.'s Nine MilePoint 2 in New York; and Duke EnergyCorp.'s Oconee 3 in South Carolina.
