Portales founder, 2 others join Compass Point

CharlesPeabody, founding partner of equity research firm , and two othershave joined Compass PointResearch & Trading LLC.

Peabodyand another former Portales analyst, William Ryan, are now part of CompassPoint's research group. Compass Point also added Paul Mattaliano as head ofsales in the company's institutional equities group. A spokesperson for CompassPoint confirmed the hires.

Portales,which was founded in 2001, shutdown its broker/dealer operations in June. The analyst additionsshould help Compass Point, which focuses on the financial services sector,expand its equity research coverage to some larger companies.  

Forinstance, Peabody is expected to cover money center, investment and trustbanks, and Compass Point does not list money center banks on its coverage list.With Portales, Peabody's coverage included Bank of America Corp., ,BB&T Corp.,Citigroup Inc.,Comerica Inc.,Cullen/Frost BankersInc., Fifth ThirdBancorp, First HorizonNational Corp., GreenDot Corp., HuntingtonBancshares Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., , , ,Prosperity BancsharesInc., SunTrust BanksInc., U.S.Bancorp, Wells Fargo& Co., UmpquaHoldings Corp., Western Union Co. and Yadkin Financial Corp.
