New Media Investment Group buying The Register-Guard

New Media Investment Group Inc. is buying The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore., for about $14.3 million.

Announcing deals in Eugene and in Massachusetts, Michael Reed, president and CEO of the company, said Feb. 28 that The Register-Guard is "expected to be a great addition to our footprint in the west, with its long history of being the dominant source of news in the Willamette Valley and over 47,000 Sunday circulation."

Also, the company expects to close the acquisition of the Holden, Mass., Landmark Corp. in the first quarter for $1.2 million.

New Media Investment Group also closed the acquisition of substantially all the assets of E.A. Sherman Publishing Co. in Newport, R.I., for $1.3 million on Oct. 27, 2017. Also, Reed said the company has been working to integrate the Morris Publishing Group acquisition that it closed in October 2017.
