GRIDSERVE completes solar/storage project in UK

U.K.-based GRIDSERVE completed a subsidy-free, 34.7-MWp solar farm with a 30-MWh battery storage project in York, U.K.

The York hybrid solar project was completed in five months and has 90,000 solar panels, 30 MWh of batteries and 500 kilometers of cable, according to a Dec. 19 news release.

It has already been turned over to the Warrington Borough Council. The council plans to purchase a second 25.7-MWp solar farm at Hull; the acquisition is expected to close early in 2020.

Output from the Hull project will be used to supply the council's energy needs, while output from the York facility will be sold into the open market. The council expects the projects to generate surplus revenues of more than £100 million over 30 years that will be used for community services.

GRIDSERVE will operate and maintain both projects.
