NextEra energizes 62-MW solar farm for Xcel Energy customers

NextEra Energy Inc. subsidiary NextEra Energy Resources LLC has placed the roughly 62-MW Marshall solar project in Lyon County, Minn., into commercial operations.

The facility, which came online Jan. 9, is selling power to Xcel Energy Inc. subsidiary Northern States Power Co. - Minnesota under a 25-year contract. "The Marshal Solar Energy Project puts us on a path to achieve our goal to be [63%] carbon-free by 2030 and we're excited to see this facility come online," Xcel Energy–Minnesota President Chris Clark said in a Jan. 18 statement.

Besides Marshall, Xcel Energy has PPAs with the 100-MW North Star solar farm, which went online in December 2016, and the Aurora project, which is expected to enter operations this year.
