Duke Energy Florida rate proposal would lower residential bills

Duke Energy Florida LLC filed a proposal with state regulators to lower electricity rates by more than 3% in 2020.

Under the rate proposal filed with the Florida Public Service Commission, typical residential customers using 1,000 kWh will see a decrease of $4.69 on their monthly bill beginning in January 2020. Commercial and industrial customers will see a decrease of between 3% and 9%, depending on several factors, according to a Sept. 16 news release.

If approved, rates for 2020 will reflect the new Lake Placid and Trenton solar power plants, grid improvements, grid reliability investments, and the Duke Energy Corp. utility's annual fuel, capacity, energy conservation and environmental compliance clause financials.
