PT Antam (Persero) Tbk said Dec. 29 that it expects full-year 2016 production of ferronickel and gold, its two main commodities, to exceed targets.
The company's ferronickel production reached 20,080 tonnes of nickel contained in ferronickel, as of the beginning of the last week of December, compared to the full-year 2016 target of 18,500 tonnes of nickel contained in ferronickel.
Antam attributed the high output to optimal operations of its ferronickel plants.
Gold production at the Pongkor gold mine in Indonesia, meanwhile, reached 1,437 kilograms as of the end of the third week of December, compared to the target of 1,431 kilograms for the year.
Antam added that it expects commercial operation of its Pomalaa ferronickel plant expansion project to occur at the start of 2017. The company also signed a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract of the Haltim ferronickel plant development project at a contract value of 3.42 trillion Indonesian rupiah. The project is expected to be completed at the end of December 2018.
On Dec. 28, Antam said that one person died and another was injured Dec. 27 while building mine ventilation at the Pongkor mine. Operational activity was not interrupted, the company said.
As of Dec. 28, US$1 was equivalent to 13,485.00 Indonesian rupiah.
