Condusef: BBVA Bancomer mobile banking claims see 1,566% hike in Q1'16 YOY

BBVA BancomerSA Institucion de Banca Múltiple Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomerreceived 53.4 million Mexican pesos in claims tied to its mobile bankingapplication during the first quarter of 2016, Reforma reported, citing data from the country's financial consumerprotection agency, Condusef.

Of this total, the bank has reportedly refunded only 2.3million pesos. "Virtually in 100% of unfavorable user claims, Bancomersaid it had evidence in its favor," Condusef's head Mario Di Costanzo wasquoted as saying.

The number of claims against the bank's mobile service cameto 4,742 between January and March, up 1,566% from the year-ago period, thereport said.

BBVA Bancomer said that if there has been a spike in claimsit is due to criminal use of clients' personal data and security pins.

As of July 20, US$1was equivalent to 18.52 Mexican pesos.
