Oil spills from tank at Equinor's Bahamas terminal in wake of Dorian

Oil was found on the ground outside the onshore tanks at Equinor ASA's South Riding Point oil storage terminal in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, according to a Sept. 5 news release from the Norwegian company.

Equinor said it could not determine the volume of the leak from an initial aerial assessment, but that no oil spill was observed at sea. Flooding is hindering its efforts to gauge the scope of damages to the terminal and its surroundings, the company said.

The company said it has mobilized oil spill response resources and informed authorities of the assessment.

The firm said its 54 employees are safe and were out of the terminal when the hurricane passed the area. Equinor shut down operations at the terminal on Aug. 31 in preparation for the hurricane.
