Rockwell Mining LLC is nearing completion of a permit for a new underground coal mine in Wyoming County, W.Va.
The Glancy Chilton mine permit application was received by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection on July 17, 2008.
It recently received approval from the department's headquarters but still needs a recommendation from the U.S. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.
According to the department's pending permit database, the company proposes to use room-and-pillar mining techniques to access coal in the Chilton coal seam.
