In order to continue improving air quality ahead of the country's 70th anniversary celebrations, China's top steelmaking city of Tangshan asked several sectors to curtail output in September and October, Reuters wrote Sept. 3 citing state-run China Metallurgical News.
The city told more than 30 steel mills to cut sintering operations by 20% to 50% and blast furnaces by 30% from Sept. 1 to 27, then limit both sintering and blast furnace output by 30% to 50% from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4.
The order also applies to companies in the coke, cement, glass and casting industries, according to the report, which added that China's second-largest steelmaking city Wuan also issued notices to cut production of steel, coke, and cement, in September.
