Charles River Laboratories International Inc. acquired Brains On-Line, a contract research organization that caters to companies developing treatments for central nervous system diseases.

Charles River paid €18 million in cash and will make an additional €6.7 million in payments based on the future performance of the business.

The acquisition strengthens Charles River Laboratories' central nervous system services in the U.S. and Europe.
