U.S. President Donald Trump appears ready to remove National Security Adviser Herbert Raymond McMaster, days after ousting Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, The Washington Post reported, citing "five people with knowledge of the plans."
Trump and McMaster do not connect well on a personal level, but the president is willing to take time executing the move so that he does not humiliate McMaster and a strong candidate could be lined up. Trump is said to be actively discussing other potential replacements at the White House, according to the report.
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denied the report, saying Trump and McMaster "have a good working relationship" and that there are no changes coming to the National Security Council.
Trump fired Tillerson via a tweet, announcing that CIA Director Mike Pompeo would be the next secretary of state. Tillerson reportedly found out about his firing when he saw the tweet.
The announcement of U.S. import tariffs triggered the resignation of former National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, who was replaced with television analyst Larry Kudlow.
