Walt Disney Co.is engaged in talks with India's DLF Brands about plans to open retail stores in thecountry, The Economic Times (India) reportedMarch 28, citing four senior industry executives.
The stores, which will be operated by Disney on a licensing andfranchisee basis, will reportedly sell branded clothing and toys in India. Disneyplans to launch a few large-format flagship stores of 10,000 square feet, whilemost of the outlets in India will average 1,000 square feet of space.
DLF Brands will initially open around 50 Disney stores in thefirst phase and is looking for locations, one of the executives said, adding thatDisney could also consider owning or turning the licensee agreement into a jointventure with DLF.
