Privacy groups Consumer Watchdog and Privacy Rights Clearinghouse are seeking a regulatory review of an allegedly "deceptive" change in Google Inc.'s privacy policy.
According to a Dec. 19 news release, the groups filed a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, claiming that the move was "unfair," violated Section 5 of the FTC Act and also violated the terms of the "Buzz Consent Agreement" the Alphabet Inc. unit signed with the agency.
The privacy groups asked the FTC to "claw back" all advertising revenue earned by the company since changing the privacy policy on June 28. The groups sought harsher penalties citing previous privacy violations by Google.
