NC regulators approve Piedmont Natural Gas rate adjustments

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on May 29 approved two rate changes for Piedmont Natural Gas Co. Inc. that are expected to result in a monthly decrease of $1 for residential customers.

A cut to the Integrity Management Rider will reduce rates 44 cents/Dth for residential customers and by 26 cents/Dth for small and medium general-service customers, according to a news release. The benchmark commodity cost of natural gas will increase to $2.75/Dth from $2.50/Dth.

The two rate changes are estimated to lower a residential customer's billing rate by 19 cents/Dth, effective June 1. The changes will be the Duke Energy Corp. subsidiary's fourth rate decrease in North Carolina in 2018. The latest reduction amounts to a total monthly decrease in 2018 of approximately $6 for the average residential customer, according to Piedmont.
