Telia Denmark CEO to step down; Nokia names strategy chief

TOP MOVES

* Netflix Inc. hired executives from media companies to work for its upcoming offices in Paris and Berlin, TBI Vision reported. In Germany, Netflix tapped ZDF (DE)'s Lucas Schmidt to join its German originals team. Meanwhile, in France, the streaming giant appointed Jimmy Desmarais, co-managing director of Lagardère Studios' Atlantique Productions, as its international originals manager. Lagardère SCA owns Lagardère Studios.

* Morten Bentzen will step down as CEO of Telia Co. AB subsidiary Telia Denmark at the end of August, according to an Aug. 20 statement. Thomas Kjærsgaard, Telia Denmark's enterprise unit head, will take over Bentzen's duties on an interim basis. Bentzen joined Telia in 2004 and became CEO of Telia Denmark in 2015.

MEDIA INDUSTRY MOVES

* Amazon Studios LLC is almost done with the first phase of appointing its country-based commissioners for original content across Europe, TBI Vision reported, citing director of European originals Georgia Brown. The Amazon.com Inc. unit has so far named nonscripted content commissioners Nicole Morganti in Italy, Nikolas Diringer in Germany, Thomas Dubois in France and Oscar Prol in Spain. Philip Pratt will oversee scripted and unscripted content in Germany. Dan Grabiner and Lydia Hampson will manage unscripted and scripted content in the U.K., respectively.

* U.K. production company Fugitive Studios appointed Merrily Ross executive vice president of nonscripted content, effective Sept. 1, TBI Vision reported. Ross is vice president of formats at Nordic Entertainment Group AB.

* Former ITV Studios Global Entertainment executive Ronan Hand is joining Asylum Entertainment LLC as senior vice president of global content, TBI Vision reported. Hand will take charge of Asylum's new office in London. ITV PLC owns ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

* Aleksandr Tkachenko stepped down as general director of Ukraine's 1+1 Media Group to pursue a career in politics, Broadband TV News reported Aug. 21, citing Telektrikika.

* Funke Mediengruppe GmbH & Co. KGaA appointed Bettina Steinke deputy editor-in-chief of online publications Der Westen, Thüringen24 and News38.

* DPG Media Creative Director Erwin Deckers is leaving the company in September, De Morgen reported Aug. 20. Deckers, who wants to focus less on management and more on coaching creative talent, will continue supporting several creative teams at DPG Media.

* Mail.ru Group Ltd.-controlled social network VKontakte Ltd. named Sergey Kubasov as its new COO, Telecompaper reported Aug. 20, citing Prime. Kubasov, who was chief technology officer, filled the role formerly held by now company CEO Andrey Rogozov.

* Finnish company Rabbit Films named Sam Ferguson as senior sales manager, based out of London, TBI Vision reported. Ferguson is joining Rabbit Films from ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY MOVES

* Former Telia executive Gabriela Styf Sjöman is joining Nokia Corp. as chief strategy officer, effective Dec. 1. Sjöman previously served Telia as vice president and head of group network services and operations. She is replacing Kathrin Buvac, who will remain a member of Nokia's group leadership team and president of Nokia Enterprise.

* Telenor Connexion AB appointed Seth Ryding chief sales officer for the Asia-Pacific region. Ryding will also take a seat on Telenor Connexion's management team.

* Virgin Media CFO Robert Dunn will move to a new role at Liberty Global PLC, London's Financial Times reported, citing an internal memo. In his new role at Virgin Media's parent company, Dunn will look at potential full-fiber broadband infrastructure investments in the U.K. Bill Castell, Dunn's deputy, was named acting CFO.

* Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. named Radoslaw Kedzia vice president for central and eastern Europe as well as the Nordic countries, Telecompaper reported Aug. 21, citing Telko.in. Prior to the appointment, Kedzia was CEO of Huawei's Czech unit.

* TDC A/S named Mads Hein as the new CEO of its recently acquired broadband subsidiary Hiper A/S, Computerworld.dk reported Aug. 15. Hein is replacing Stig Myken, who co-founded Hiper.
