Ørsted A/S on Sept. 9 said that the second phase of its Formosa 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan has generated its first supply of electricity.
The second phase of the offshore wind project will have a total capacity of 120 MW and will comprise 20 wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA.
Of the total, 10 turbines have already been and installed and six have started producing power. Full operations for the second phase of the wind project is scheduled within the next two months, according to a company news release.
Formosa 1 is situated about 2 km to 6 km off the coast of Miaoli County and will have a total capacity of 128 MW. The first phase of the project consists of two 4-MW wind turbines that were installed in October 2016 and entered commercial operation in April 2017.
The offshore project is 35% owned by Ørsted, 32.5% by Japanese firm JERA, 25% by Macquarie Capital and 7.5% by Taiwanese firm Swancor Renewable Energy.
