Honda unit to increase 2-wheeler production in India

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned unit of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., said Oct. 4 that it will increase its two-wheel vehicle production in the country.

The subsidiary will invest 6.3 billion Indian rupees for an additional line at its scooter plant in Gujarat, which is expected to boost output by 600,000 units.

The expansion will increase the unit's overall annual production capacity to 7 million units by 2020, the automaker said.

Hondo Motorcycle produces 6.4 million two-wheeled vehicles annually in India, according to the release.

As of Oct. 3, US$1 was equivalent to 73.40 Indian rupees.
